A Recent Trip To China With Our Clients . . .

Now, rather than go on and on with a super-long sales hype, I'm presenting the rest of the information in the form of questions I've received over the last few years.

Questions & Answers about The Mainland China Trading Agent Partner Program

Murray, there are tons of Internet scams. How do I know this is not one of those?

Well, in a sense, you don't. EXCEPT, there are certain very specific differences between this 'real' business opportunity and some of the other 'programs' you will find out there. Here are few things that make this business so unique:

  1. Limited participation, unlimited opportunity. There are only have about 300 distributors/agents doing this with us. Not thousands. Yet there is limitless opportunity. There are thousands of potential customers out there and they just don't know how to tap into China manufacturing. You're going to make it easy for them. And we're going to make it easy for you.
     
  2. No MLM hype. There is no "referral fee" or MLM level to this.  You won't be getting "10 friends angry with you." There are potential customers everywhere for this. They just don't know how to go about it manufacturing in China.
     
  3. You're OUR partner. I, Murray Smith am the president. You are dealing "direct" with me and my wife, Hui, and partnering directly with us and our team in China (below is a recent picture of me with our China-based staff. How many business opportunities that  you've looked at show you a picture of their staff?). 

               
     
  4. A real business. Nothing is held back.  The reason you responded to the Internet presentation is because it SOUNDED different.  And, you know what? It is!  This is a 'real' business where you will be dealing direct with 'real' people - NO mystery, it is all very real and that is why it makes perfect sense.

  6. Residual Income. I'm sure you know what this means. It means that when customers reorder, you get paid again. And yes, lots (most) of our customers reorder. So, you might spend some time landing a particular customer. But when they reorder, you get paid and you spent very little time (if any) getting that second order (and third order, and fourth, and so on).

Murray, you have only about 300 people doing this. How many could you handle?

My guess is that we could handle two to three times the volume with the people we have now. So that would mean, maybe 600 to 900, before we have to start hiring a permanent staff in the US and a larger staff in China.

However, any one person could bring in one or several clients with dozens of products, and that is what is so great about this business.

If this is such a great deal, what do you need me for?

OK, good question, so think about this for a moment.  It is very difficult, if not impossible to manage a staff and develop new business in the United States while we are in China or dealing with our factories in China.  We need to be watching over the orders getting manufactured and keeping an eye on the quality. (see this great picture of Beijing at sunset).

It is much better to have smart, motivated partners who can make and manage deals, and share 50 percent which is better than making nothing.  We need people (you) who can establish business relationships over the phone, get orders, and send them to us for manufacturing - simple as that.

The other thing is that it is much more efficient and effective to work through our partner network to grow the business. Our partners are able to uncover many more deals that we could find directly. I look at this as our marketing cost -- and it's a win win. This is a great business opportunity to make significant residual income.

Murray, you are going to help with this, right? I don't know who to call or what to say.

But Murray, I don't like "cold calling"

Good! I hate cold calling too. You know what? You don't have to! Our best customer came from a blind email! Our next two best customers came from our website!

But it's still a good idea to make "warm" calls. But unlike cold calling which is more like calling and trying to sell something to someone, you are one professional calling another professional about their business.

To better illustrate the difference of calling someone to sell them something versus what this business is all about, imagine you are calling a doctor about pharmaceuticals.

You most often do not get to see the doctor unless you bring lunch for the entire staff and then there are no guarantees.

But, in our type of business, imagine you are another doctor and you want to refer a patient to the other doctor.  Do you think you will get through to the doctor you are calling? Of course! Because you are one professional calling another about their practice.

How are transactions and payments handled?

The transaction process can be handled in different ways, depending on the circumstances. Typically the manufacturing clients send money directly to our Chinese factory. Since we function as "manufacturers' agents", we do not assume as much liability as a direct importer. (This is fully explained in our materials). I then invoice them separately in a consulting fee arrangement.

This does a couple of things. It shifts the liability to the Chinese manufacturer, not me. If there is (and there hasn't been yet) a problem, then I can play the role of the problem solver, not the person who has to come up with the money to give back to the client.

Also, with an open fee arrangement, our North American clients are usually much more open about their target pricing. This makes it easier to negotiate with our Chinese manufacturers if margins are thin.

Now, if it is necessary, you can have your American client deal with us, as their American agent, OR they can deal with you directly. It's up to you, but I will be there to help walk you through each deal you bring to the table.

If I do this, do I have my own company, or am I working under the Mainland China Trading name or what?


You can do anything you want, but my recommendation would be to say you are a part of Mainland China Trading. That way  you are positioned as the source, rather than a broker. Certainly, your business structure is another matter. I'm not an attorney and am not suggesting how you structure your business. But as far as prospects go, you can position yourself as an independent consultant with Mainland China Trading.

Your commissions on any sale will come from Mainland China Trading Inc. and at the end of the year we will also send you a 1099 for tax purposes.

Murray, what's keeping you from going around me after I bring you a prospect?


We protect your interests in a few ways. First, together we sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) regarding client information. Second, there is always lots of email correspondence going back and forth, so there's never a doubt as to who owns the customer relationship. Third, we're in China for at least one-third of the year. Who's going to manage that customer? You are! For this reason, we really need our partner agents.

Our agent network is the lifeblood of our business. This network feeds a consistent flow of business that makes this opportunity a win win. It makes no sense to go around our agents. You maintain the customer relationship and we make sure everything is handled in China on-time and with highest quality and integrity. After you set up a customer, it is yours for life. You generate income from your customers each time they order. And the orders often get bigger and bigger.

Do I need to visit customers?

Not unless you want to. If that is the way you do business, then it would make sense to see your customers. We have agents that visit customers and some that do not. They do everything by phone.

The samples that arrive to the customer are much more important than an agent's "physical presence" at a customer site. So it's really just a phone and website business.

Do I need to worry about my client "going around" us if the Chinese manufacturer is paid directly?

That is one of your greatest benefits you get from this program and doing business with my wife and me.  When you are dealing with family in China, no one goes around you. 

As a matter of fact, you should invite your client to come to China and inspect the factory!  If you are interested in going as well, have him or her pay for your trip.  It works that way with us all the time.

Can I do this while I have a day job?

That depends. We have several partners doing this while still working full-time jobs. You want to make sure you can take inbound calls, though.

There is also an Internet strategy that works very well and which could be working for you when you are unable to make calls.  This strategy will be shared with you along with other marketing resources when you join our program.

If you work 9 to 5 and are on the Eastern or Central time zone, you could concentrate your calling on manufacturers located in the Mountain or Pacific time zones.  Basically, where there is a will to succeed, you will find a way.

What kind of success are other people having? What is realistic?

I will be completely upfront with you about everything. I DO NOT want you to do this if it doesn't feel right to you. You should pursue this only if you have patience, ambition and are able to articulate yourself clearly on the phone or be willing and committed to learning how to do so.

There is one 55-year-old gentleman, a school teacher, who signed up and 24 hours after receiving the material had his first RFQ (Request For Quote).

48 hours later, he had two more with eight different products. Three weeks after he signed up, we placed the first test order of one container full of one item. He will make $1400 on that test order.

The client told us that they typically order 10 containers at a time on a monthly basis. (You do the math.)

Another rep called me recently after joining (he is a truck driver from Florida).  He was excited because he already had his first RFQ (Request For Quote).  It was for a container load of manhole covers.  I asked him how many calls he had made to get that RFQ.  He said "ONE".  It was his first dial of the phone.

Let me also mention that several people who signed up very quickly and there has not been a peep from them since. However, everyone who has made an effort has had some degree of success.  There are many more success stories that can be shared with you if we talk.  I also have family that is doing this who already own two other businesses. How long have you been doing this, Murray?

I have personally been doing this three years.  It took about a year to figure out the best resources for locating who to call and more importantly, who not to call.  Getting clients is easy. 

Finding products and companies that you can make money with is a little trickier, however, these and all of our little known success discoveries for this business are outlined for you.

So how long does it take to get going?

You should give yourself three to five months to get your first check. This is not because you are trying to find new clients, but because it takes a while to go back and forth between the USA and China with drawings, samples, PO's (Purchase Orders), then actually making the product and shipping it to the United States (4 weeks on that alone).  But, if you got an order tomorrow (for example), you could possibly move things up a month or more.

Can I speak to some of your other reps?

I would probably ask for the same thing.  However, put yourself in my shoes, or better yet, in my rep's shoes.  Imagine for a second that you become a rep with us, start having great success, would you want dozens of people a day calling you, taking up your valuable calling time to answer their questions?

Would you tell them how great this is?  You would probably not want to tell everyone who called you out-of-the-blue how great this is (knowing when they join it means more competition for you) ... and you would probably get annoyed with all the phone calls.

However, I will give you access to plenty of audio and video of that will have testimonials and case studies. In the mean time, all it will take is for you to make just a few phone calls to see what an incredible need there is for this unique international business service.

I am seeing other programs that appear to be like yours being advertised, how is your business different?

Actually, I too have seen some new "importing business opportunities" popping up.  Some are websites that offer cheap Chinese goods for you to resell on eBay or peddle to retailers.  I am not going to tell you what to do, but that is a hard way to do business.

It is tempting because you, as a business opportunity candidate, can see the apparent opportunity. 

Don't fall for it.  The products are mainly junk and you will most likely get stuck with a garage or basement full of inventory.

There are also some "importing courses" that offer you a chance to do "international business".  They give you lots of information, then you have to get on "chat rooms" or "trader bulletin boards" and "attempt" to make deals.

I have had a number of people call me who have signed up for one of these other programs (for $499) and "none" have actually done any transactions.  It is easy to generate activity, it is hard to make a real transaction happen in most of these other programs.
